Capital Metro rolled out some service changes on Jan. 7 that add more MetroExpress buses and more MetroRail rush hour trips.

On MetroRail, there are now three additional trips in the mornings and evenings:

From Leander Station in the Morning

  • 6:51 a.m. and 6:56 a.m.
  • 7:27 a.m. and 7:32 a.m
  • 8:03 a.m. and 8:08 a.m.

From Downtown Station in the Evening

  • 4:17 p.m. and 4:22 p.m.
  • 4:53 p.m. and 4:58 p.m.
  • 5:29 p.m. and 5:34 p.m.

Capital Metro’s MetroExpress buses have free access to the new MoPac managed lanes. That means the agency can offer a 50 percent boost on four of its MetroExpress commuter routes:

Direct to Downtown

  • New Route 981 Oak Knoll Express operates in the MoPac managed lanes and services the Pavilion and Great Hills Park & Rides before heading directly to downtown.
  • Route 985 Leander/Lakeline Direct has added trips so that it operates all day. It also uses the managed lanes and services Leander and Lakeline Stations before heading directly to downtown.

Direct to 38th Street Medical District

  • Route 982 Pavilion Express added trips so that it operates all day and services the Pavilion and Great Hills Park & Rides before heading directly to the 38th Street medical area.
  • Route 987: Leander/Lakeline Express operates in the managed lanes for certain trips at the discretion of the operator. It services Leander and Lakeline Stations before heading directly to the 38th Street medical area.

Other service changes include the addition of morning trips to Route 7, in direct response to the popularity of the route and to relieve overcrowding, and adjusted schedules for Routes 214, 243, 464, 465 and 466 — all of which service the train stations — to coordinate with the new MetroRail schedules.

For employees this means more options that will allow them to try car-free commutes. And for employers, who can take advantage of programs like MetroWorks, it means more opportunities to connect employees with commutes that can help save them time and money.
